Mimi Paul- Owner of Broadway for Life Radio

Writer's picture: Marisa DominguezMarisa Dominguez

Today’s interview is with another lovely young woman who is super inspiring. She took matters into her own hands and created a company of her own! She started the company, Broadway For Life Radio! If you love music, podcasts and Broadway keep on reading because you will love this interview!

What is your name? How old are you? Where are you from?

My name is  Miriam paul I’m 18 years old and I live in Orlando, Florida

Tell us a little bit more about Broadway for Life radio!

Broadway for life radio is an online radio station with the goal to bring the best of Broadway to everyone. Knowing that not every fan lives in New York where they can watch Musicals 24/7. So we try and bring a little piece of it to you. By having this online station everyone can listen to the gifts that broadway provides… EVEN IF YOU LIVE IN AUSTRALIA!

What made you start Broadway for Life radio? What was the process like?

B4lradio was just an excuse for me to listen to music on my school iPad back in high school Since my school had the brightest idea to block youtube on our school IPads. I tried to find a station online that plays ONLY broadway music, not Disney, glee, and a touch of pop. Sooner or later my searches changed from Broadway radio stations to how to make a Broadway radio station. Leading me to create Broadway for life radio. The process wasn’t hard at all. I simply signed up for a streaming service called radio my and added my favorite songs and they did the rest.

What made you want to venture into the podcast? What was that process like?

In all honesty, I just loved the idea of a podcast. I did it once for my school project and wanted an excuse to make one for myself. So after a while of self debate, I started That Broadway show where I just rant about broadway and sometimes focus on a show.

How do you manage both school, Broadway for Life Radio and everyday life?

I don’t. Like it’s hard to always keep your mind on many things when you know it likes to dedicate its soul to one. But like everyone else in this world I push through never try to overwhelm myself with too much and when I get pounded by one thing I have to set aside the other thing so I can complete what’s killing me. But by knowing my strengths and weaknesses I make it by.

I know you have some staff members and volunteers from all over the country! What has that been like working with people from all around the country?

I LOVE IT! Like yes, it has it’s downfalls since it is hard to meet up with them or being able to have a group meeting since everyone’s time zone is all wacky. But by having different people in different places it helps proves that broadway fans are EVERYWHERE! The fandom is strong!!!!

What has it been like seeing the impact that Broadway For Life radio is having on people? Any stories you would like to share?

Sadly I haven’t seen or heard stories about my station impacting others’ lives. I’m sure it is but maybe I need to put in my glasses to notice it. But one thing that I love is seeing other fans meet each other and make a new friend out of the bond that they listen to our station, or when I wear a B4lradio hoodie and someone takes time out of their day to talk to me cuz like me they love broadway.

What do you see for the future of Broadway for Life radio?

In the near future, I see us at Broadway Con! Cough cough 2021 :p Later on, I would love to be one of the key things people think of when they think of Broadway. Kind of like when you think broadway you will think of broadway.com or playbill they are just apart of the package. I want us to be a station that broadway musicals want to be heard on and listeners enjoy every single aspect of it.

Who is a woman that you look up too in the theatre community and why?

Laura Osnes I never really had a reason in why I’ve loved her so much. She is such an amazing actress. Also, I cannot forget Sara Bareilles when Waitress came out I knew she would forever have a place in my heart for writing such an amazing musical that has forever been stuck in my heart.

Thank you Mimi for such a wonderful interview! I love what you are doing in the Broadway community. Everyone go check out Broadway For Life Radio, to listen to both their radio and podcast. They also have an Instagram, @b4liferadio and Facebook page to stay up to date on all things B4Lradio! If you check them out on social media, tell them that Broadway Babes sent you!

Until Next Time,

Marisa
