Interview with Marianne Goddard of @broadway.makeup

Hi! I hope that everyone is staying happy and healthy! I’m back with another amazing interview! I had the chance to interview Marianne. She has an Instagram account where she posts pictures of her talented makeup looks based on Broadway shows! She is so creative. I can’t wait for y’all to learn more about Marianne and her Broadway makeup looks!

What’s your name? How old are you? Where are you from?

Marianne Goddard. 16. Massachusetts.

Tell us a little bit more about @broadway.makeup!

Broadway.Makeup is an instagram where I do makeup looks inspired by Broadway shows and post them!

What inspired you to start learning more about makeup and then incorporating Broadway?

When I was younger I did a lot of dance and Cheerleading so I needed to learn how to do makeup for that. But when I got older I started to do makeup for fun! The incorporating of Broadway was something I thought of when I was going to see Wicked and did pink on one eye and green on the other!

What made you start your account? What was the process like?

I thought about making a new makeup instagram account. I had one that I didn’t really use so I thought it was time for a fresh start, I wanted a new brand, something unique. The thing that really pushed me to make it about Broadway was at the Wicked at the stage door one of the cast members told me that I should share the look I did on social media and then a month later I started the account!

What is the design process like for your makeup looks?

It really depends on the look sometimes I’ll draw them out other times I just think of something and do it. Most of the time I’ll have the art for the show sitting in front of me as I do the look for inspiration!

What is your favorite thing about makeup and designing different looks?

I really love the way I get to be creative and sometimes take pieces of the show I wouldn’t think of using in a look and using them in the look!

What has been your favorite memory (or two if you can’t just pick one!) since starting your account?

I would say meeting so many amazing friends!

What advice would you have for someone who is just starting to get into makeup?

Some of the biggest pieces I have gotten are to always keep practicing and try new things, I’ve been doing makeup for as long and I can remember and I still practice! There is definitely more for me to learn and try! And also don’t compare your work to other people’s! I struggle with this everyday but everyone is unique in their own way!

What do you see for the future of @makeup.broadway?

I honestly have no idea what I see for the future of this page, maybe a youtube channel? I dove into this with no real plan and still don’t have one!

Who is a woman that you look up too in the theatre community and why?

I look up to so many but probably my main one is Chelsea Nachman. She is a broadway press rep who co owns Grapevine PR. My absolute dream is to work for her one day! Her sense of humor, love for broadway, and posts about mental health are so inspiring!

Thank you so much, Marianne for taking the time to do this interview! You are so lovely! I can’t wait to continue to see the amazing things you do! I hope everyone enjoyed reading more about Marianne and her incredible makeup looks! You can find Marianne on Instagram, @broadway.makeup ! Go check her out and be sure to tell her that Broadway Babes sent you!

Until next time,

Marisa
