Resources for Theatre Lovers during COVID-19.

Hi everyone! I figured I would keep the resources going this week. As we can tell by the state of the world, theatres will not be opening any time soon. My heart is not only missing seeing theatre but also performing. I have watched a few filmed theatre pieces as well as performed in Zoom Cabaret. (Two words, I never thought would I type.) Even with theatres continuing to be closed, there are still ways for you to get your theatre fix. I am so excited to share with you some resources to help make your theatre heart happy during these crazy times.

  1. Broadway Weekends at Home

Broadway Weekends at Home is such an incredible resource. It was started by Jeanna De Waal (Princess Diana in Diana on Broadway) and her sister. When COVID-19 started, they move their programs online. You can take classes when Broadway and West-End professionals. Everyone is so kind and nice! It is such a wonderful community. You do have to pay for classes. However, they offer many different pricepoint packages. Wanna know the best part? They offer a FREE community class each week. Each week the community class changes. It may be a dance class, music class, Q and A… you never know! I can seriously not say enough wonderful things about Broadway Weekends. You can head to their website here or feel free to message me on Instagram here. I am one of the social media captains for BWH, so feel free to message if you want to here more about my experiences with BWH!

2. The National Theatre Youtube Channel

Missing live theatre? Looking to learn about or watch new shows? Well, do I have the place for you! The National Theatre’s Youtube channel already has plenty of amazing content. With theatres across the world being closed, they post full-length productions of various shows they have produced EVERY Thursday. FREE THEATRE!! I watched the Old Vic’s production of “Streetcar Named Desire”, it was amazing! It was filmed so well and just a great production overall! You can check out the National Theatre’s Youtube channel, here. **Note productions posted on Thursday are only available to view for one week!**

3. Broadway Babysitters Playhouse

Broadway Babysitters playhouse is a great resource for those with young children! They host storytime and dance parties with different Broadway performers. I am Nanny and I will be trying to use this resource more! I know my nanny girls (age 3 and age 7) who love to sing and dance will LOVE this! You can learn more about Broadway Babysitters Playhouse here. Also, if you can’t catch storytime or a dance party live, they have previously recorded ones on their Facebook!

4. “Hamilton” on Disney Plus starting July 3rd!

I

I know that this one has been ALL over social media, however I am just so excited! You can watch the FULL Hamilton show with the original Broadway cast. This is one is NOT to miss. You can catch Hamilton on Disney Plus on July 3rd!

I hope you enjoy my resources! If you find more, please feel free to share with me! I am always looking to add to my list! Resources like these help me not to miss live theatre as much. Live theatre WILL come back. The theatre community is going to come back stronger than ever. Remember its #OnlyIntermission.

Until next time,

Marisa
